After two nights in Dublin, we continued our trip and crossed the country to get from east coast to west coast. Our destination: Galway. Finally popular in our generation as well thanks to Ed Sheeran. Spoiler: We didn’t meet the Galway Girl..
On the way we first stopped in a little village and explore an old castle ruin, which could easily be a film set for Vikings or Game of Thrones. Later we as well took a break from driving on the “wrong” side of the street and enjoyed a stormy breeze at the oceanside.
The evening was spent well in Galway, which has a great selection of pubs and restaurants. Next morning, we hit the road again in heavy rain. Luckily as we reached the ferry towards the Aran Islands, the weather brightened up.
Therefore we were able to rent our bikes at Inishmore and roam the biggest of the three islands on two wheels. And this time we were lucky and came back in time for the last ferry of the day.
Our time at the west coast ended with another visit at an old castle which should have a place in the final season of Game of Thrones. So if you still looking for places to shoot, George R. R. Martin – Dunguaire Castle is where you should go!
Even more impressing where the majestic Cliffs of Moher, where they already shot quite a few movies (say Harry Potter). Nevertheless the cliffs are a bit more touristic than I imagined – still a must see for anyone visiting Ireland.
